Jail and Detention facilities present a unique environment when it comes to traditional enforcement of fire codes. While the primary concern in all buildings is the ability to evacuate during a fire event, with jail and detention facilities the concern is expanded to not only include the ability to evacuate but also the ability to contain and control the population during the evacuation.
All jail and detention facilities are inspected by the OSFM on an annual basis. The inspections are conducted utilizing the 2006 International Fire Code.
