The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PORTS) enriched uranium during the cold war period and thus played a major role in our national defense. PORTS employed thousands of residents form Pike, Ross, Jackson and Scioto Counties in southern Ohio.
