Restoration Atlas—Track NOAA restoration projects in your state

The Restoration Center has restored more than 2,000 projects nationwide. They range from wetlands and salt marsh to oyster reefs and coral reefs—and everything in between! Now you can see what’s happening in your neck of the woods by using the Restoration Atlas, a one-stop review of our collective restoration efforts around the country.

Use the Atlas to search by habitat type, location or congressional district, and many other topics. Or, you can choose the drop down menus and sort through a more comprehensive list. Either way, you’re going to be amazed at the projects, photos, and partners who make these restoration success stories come to life.

Recovery Act Restoration Atlas—Track NOAA Recovery Act projects in your state

In February 2009, NOAA received $167 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to jumpstart the nation’s economy by creating thousands of jobs through coastal habitat restoration. NOAA selected 50 high quality, high priority projects to support the equivalent of 1,500 jobs and restore U.S. coasts on a grand scale.

Many of these projects are now underway, and the rest will break ground sometime this year. They will restore wetlands, salt marsh, oyster and coral reefs, as well as remove fish passage barriers on coastal rivers and streams. In addition to improving the environment, these efforts will restore fisheries and support more resilient coasts in the face of climate change.

NOAA Habitat Restoration Monitoring Map (NOHARM)

This map tool highlights monitoring data for selected NOAA-sponsored restoration projects. The included projects are funded by the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection, and Restoration Act (CWPPRA). Data includes overhead imagery, ground truth photographs, metadata, summary reports, briefings, and interactive capabilities for viewing animated overhead imagery that show changes in time and for relating ground truth photos to overhead imagery.
