CALIFORNIA FIRE FIGHTER I RECIPROCITY/UPGRADE

The California Fire Fighter I reciprocity/upgrade program is now AVAILABLE! Fire Fighter I reciprocity is intended for Out-Of-State and Department of Defense (DoD) Fire Fighters who have received training and/or certification in another state and are now seeking reciprocity in California. The Fire Fighter I upgrade program is intended for California certified Fire Fighters who have received certification under the 2001 curriculum and are now looking to upgrade their state certification to a state and nationally recognized IFSAC/Pro Board certification. CERTIFICATION RETIREMENTS
January 2017
As of January 1, 2017 a number of certifications were retired including: Fire Instructor II, III, Fire Officer, Driver/Operator I and Public Education Officer. Newer versions of these certifications can be found on the Professional Certification webpage. |

DEADLINE EXTENDED - Training Instructor & Chief Officer

Training Instructor certification deadline has been extended from December 31, 2016 to December 31, 2017. The SFT Training Instructor curriculum will still retire at the end of December 31, 2016. An updated implementation plan and Training Instructor certification checklist can be found on the SFT website.

PROPOSED: CHANGE TO INSTRUCTOR REGISTRATION

At the January & October STEAC meeting, SFT presented a proposal to update future SFT instructor registration requirements. The presentation discussed the benefits and reasons for implementing this proposed change including; cost savings, reduction of hours and eliminates confusion regarding certification vs. registration.
