Dream Big Winners

Press Release: Treasurer Nappier Recognizes 48 Statewide Winners of 2016 CHET Dream Big! Competition; $26,000 in CHET College Savings Accounts Awarded to Kindergarten - 8th Grade Students 

Myslenski with Treasurer Nappier   Matthew Myslenski, a 5th grader from Brookfield, was one of the four grand prize winners.  Matthew, pictured here with Treasurer Nappier, wrote in an essay that he wants to find a cure for cerebral palsy.  Also grand prize winners were Thomas Gerlach, a 1st grader from Ellington; Alexandra Saon, a third grader from Stamford; and Sandra Tello, who is in the eighth grade at Bridge Academy in Bridgeport.

The Dream Big! Competition ran from January through March, 2016, The 48 winners hail from all eight counties in Connecticut.   List of winners     View winnning entries
Emerson and Treasurer Nappier Smalley Academy in New Britain, which promotes college awareness starting in kindergarten, submitted the highest number of entries on behalf of its students, with 551 students entering the Competition. Pictured at left is Liz Emerson, a teacher at Smalley, with Treasurer Nappier.
Two award recipients are siblings at Newfield Elementary School in Stamford. Deep Banerjee, top right photo, is in 4th grade and wants to be a civil engineer who builds low-cost schools, housing, hospitals, police stations and fire departments. Neel Banerjee, bottom right, is in 2nd grade and wants to be a scientist who kills poisonous mosquitoes.

Among the other winners were Madeline Thi Doran, a third grader at Southeast Elementary School in Storrs, and Isaiah Jovon Saylor, an eighth grader at Simpson Waverly School in Hartford.
