To help families save for college, the State of Connecticut offers the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET), Connecticut’s 529 College Savings Plan.
Treasurer Denise L. Nappier is Trustee of CHET.
CHET is a tax-advantaged, low cost savings program specifically designed to help families save for future college costs. The funds can be used at accredited colleges and universities across the country, including vocational and technical schools, and some colleges abroad.

Connecticut families can take an income tax deduction (up to $5,000 for single filers, $10,000 for joint filers) on contributions to CHET accounts. Please click CHET Disclosure Booklet to download a PDF file to read for more information.
CHET has among the lowest fees in the industry, offers a choice of investment options, and is for all income levels. A CHET account may be opened with as little as $25, and contributions can be made using automatic deposit from checking or savings accounts or payroll deduction through participating employers.
The CHET Direct program offers on-line enrollment. A CHET account can be opened by any individual, including a grandparent, family friend or neighbor. CHET Direct is professionally managed by TIAA-CREF, a financial services organization with more than 100 years of investment experience. It has
14 investment options. For information or materials call 1-888-799-CHET (2438) or visit www.aboutchet.com (haga clic aquí para español).
In 2010, the Treasurer established an agreement with the Hartford Financial Services company to be the program manager for CHET Advisor, the advisor-sold 529 program for Connecticut. The CHET Advisor plan has 18 investment options. For information or materials, call 877-407-2828 or visit www.chetadvisor.com.
CHET Advance Scholarship
The CHET Advance Scholarship is an annual program offered by the Connecticut State Treasurer’s Office to help Connecticut students pay for college. In
Fall 2016, the program will provide grants to high school seniors

CHET Baby Scholars
CHET Baby Scholars encourages savings for newborns and
newly-adopted children. Newborns residing in Connecticut, up
to one year old, and newly-adopted children, not later than the
first anniversary of the adoption, are eligible to have a grant in
the amount of $100 deposited into a CHET account. If an
additional $150 is saved in the account by the time the child is
four (or, in the case of adoption, by the fourth anniversary of the
adoption), the family is eligible to receive an additional $150.
