The mission of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History is to identify, preserve, protect, promote and present the ideas, arts and artifacts of West Virginia’s heritage, building pride in our past accomplishments and confidence in our future.

Welcome from Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith.

Commissioner Randall Reid-Smith

Welcome to 2017!

It’s February.  Here at the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, we are into the swing of youth programming.

We begin the month celebrating diversity with our partners at the Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs as we feature posters by students from around the state.  On February 17, we open the annual Congressional Youth Art exhibit in the Great Hall.

Throughout the month, we will recognize the hard work of eighth graders who are participating in West Virginia History Bowl regional tournaments around the state.  We will admire the dedication of young dancers who are attending the West Virginia Dance Festival adjudications.  And we will be offering some fun family activities at the Grave Creek Mound discovery table.

Students will be touring our sites and learning more about our state’s culture and heritage.

We love the energy of young visitors.  Please come by and see for yourself how their enthusiasm for our state can have a positive effect on you, too!
