Homeland Security/First Responders
 
New Yorkers know better than anyone the threats brought by the new century and the need for strong security to protect America.  It is vital that we implement the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission to help prevent another attack like the ones on the World Trade Center.  We must also insure that our First Responders have all the tools and training needed to respond to terrorist attacks or natural disasters.
 
I am a proud cosponsor of H.R. 1 which will implement all the homeland security provisions of the 9/11 Commission.  The House acted quickly on this legislation and passed H.R. 1 in the 100 hours of the 110th Congress.
 
I have also cosponsored legislation, H.R. 943, which will reduce the tax burden on the brave men and women who serve as volunteer first responders.
