Hall Statement on the 7th Anniversary of 9/11
Thursday, September 11, 2008

Washington, DC – Today U.S. Rep. John Hall (D-NY19) led the U.S. House of Representatives in a Special Order Hour remembering the seventh anniversary of the September 11 attacks.  Hall released the following statement:

"While the terrorists were able to destroy the World Trade Towers in New York City and damage the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, they didn’t take into account the indomitable American spirit.

My most lasting image of that day is not the planes flying into buildings, or the World Trade Towers collapsing.  What I remember are the people, many of them firefighters, police officers and EMT's, ordinary men and women, doing everything in their power to help. I think of all the people who rushed downtown without regard to their own safety, determined to do what they could for others. They clearly demonstrated to our enemies that our spirit can never be broken and we are determined to confront any threat to our national security.

The United States will never give in to terrorism, and we will never shirk from our duty to defend our country and the principles for which it stands.

I urge all Americans to honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and to commit ourselves to whatever sacrifices it may take to prevent such an attack from ever again taking place on our great nation."
