Climate Change Processes and Impacts

Global climate change processes and impacts research in EETD is aimed at understanding the factors--and the feedbacks among these factors--driving global climate change and its consequences. Climate change will have major effects on the world's environment, the economy, and the health of humans and ecosystems.

Areas of research in EETD include:

  • Global climate modeling and development
  • Global and regional climate change and past/future trends
  • Uncertainties in long-term climate effects
  • Aerosol-cloud-climate interactions
  • Role of deep convective and mixed-phase stratus cloud systems on climate
  • Climate impact assessment
  • Implications for wildfire
  • Air quality and health effects
  • Impacts of changes in precipitation on crops
  • Economic impacts
  • Impacts on the insurance industry
  • Synergisms between technologies and strategies for adaptation and mitigation
  • Contributions to The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assessments of vulnerability, impacts, and adaptation in the financial services sector globally, and all sectors in North America

Sponsors of this research include the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Agency for International Development, and NASA.

EETD also conducts research on mitigation of climate change through reductions in greenhouse gases.
