Case Agent Investigative Review

This 1-day course is for RCFL clients and is designed for investigators of Digital Evidence. The concepts of digital evidence forensics are discussed along with hands-on training with Access Data's Forensic Tool Kit (FTK). Investigators will learn software and hardware methods to allow for the expedient and thorough review of examination output and report building. The course is 50% FTK training and 50% practical exercises.
Prerequisite: By invitation only.

About CAIR:

The Case Agent Investigative Review (CAIR) tool enables investigators to review an RCFL's digital evidence results online via a secure network. This capability is a great time-saver both for the RCFL and its customers because they can view the results in the convenience of their own offices.

Because evidence and other sensitive materials from ongoing investigations are reviewed over the CAIR System, the need for an extremely secure system was a top priority. The Heart of America RCFL (HARCFL) in Kansas City accepted the challenge and developed and implemented a system which protects information from third parties and provides it in an understandable manner. It took the HARCFL team, which included representatives from its participating agencies at the state, local and federal level, over a year to accomplish this formidable goal.

Although the technology exists to bring the CAIR System to every RCFL, the funding is not yet available to implement the initiative program-wide. The HARCFL, however, thanks to financial contributions from two of its participating agencies—the Sheriff's Offices of Johnson County and Shawnee County, Kansas, was the first to offer this valuable tool to its customers across its vast service area of Kansas and the western two-thirds of Missouri. To date, investigators have used the CAIR tool on a variety of investigations including several large scale mortgage fraud investigations which are currently on the rise.

Image Scan Training

This software tool was created by members of the FBI's Computer Analysis Response Team specifically for "knock & talk" situations relating to child exploitation investigations. Once deployed, the software quickly identifies and isolates images on a suspect's computer and stores them on a USB device – without altering any files on the computer. ImageScan consists of a CD and a USB device. Click here to read our FAQ about ImageScan.
