Alaska Geospatial Council (AGC)

Geoportal

Geoportal, ISO Metadata TWG

A very high priority of the Alaska Geospatial Strategic Plan is the planning and implementation of an authoritative geoportal. To date Alaska and its partners have invested over $35M in geospatial data (IfSAR & Ortho Imagery). At this time Alaska does not have a long term or sustainable stewardship program or custodial plan for these assets.

Grant funding exists to support a TWG/Steering committee to address long term, sustainable data warehousing and distribution. Funding is sufficient to hire an independent third party consultant to engage stakeholders in a transparent and inclusive effort to establish user requirements and review all available options, resources and assets. The TWG would then make recommendations based upon stakeholder consensus for a sustainable statewide geoportal.

The Geoportal TWG also addresses and investigates cost sharing opportunities and revenue driven models for sustainability.

Grant funds stem from the National Spatial Data Infrastructure / US Geological Survey / Federal Geographic Data Committee.
