The Florida Department Health in Brevard County (DOH-Brevard) provides clinical and nutrition programs to help meet the needs of the community. We offer the following clinical and nutrition services:

Dental

Daily dental clinics are held for Medicaid-eligible children covered by most Medicaid Dental HMOs for preventative care. Adults over 20 with most Medicaid Dental HMO plans who are experiencing pain may be seen. DOH-Brevard also has an Adult Volunteer Dental Clinic to provide limited dental services to low-income adults without other access to dental care.

Family Planning

Confidential family planning services are available to all women regardless of age or income at low or no cost. Services include education, physical exam, lab work, family-planning, counseling and the selected method of birth control.

Immunizations

DOH-Brevard offers vaccines for all ages through our three clinic sites. In addition to childhood immunizations, adult and travel vaccines are also available through our Immunization Program at a fee based on the cost of the vaccine.

Maternity

The DOH-Brevard Maternity Program offers Comprehensive Prenatal Care through Physicians, Certified Midwives, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Registered Dieticians, Social Workers, Lactation Specialists, Lab Technicians and Health Educators.

PATH (Primary Access to Health)

The Primary Access to Health (PATH) Program is a community partnership effort between the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners, the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County and Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine to provide primary medical care to eligible, low-income uninsured adult members of Brevard County.

Rabies

DOH-Brevard’s Rabies Program Coordinator (RPC) investigates animal bites to a human by a potentially rabid animal for possible transmission of Rabies. If the RPC determines that there was a valid exposure then a procedure called Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) may be recommended. PEP consists of a series of vaccinations and offered at our Viera clinic site.

School Health

School Health Services promote student health through prevention, early intervention and treatment or referral for acute or chronic health problems. DOH-Brevard manages the School Health Services Program in cooperation with the local school district which provides funding to place a health professional in each public school clinic.

STDs

The DOH-Brevard Sexually Transmitted Diseases Program is responsible for the control of STDs (mainly HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and Hepatitis A, B, and C) through the utilization of investigative techniques. Testing, treatment and education services are available.

WIC

WIC is a federally funded nutrition program for Women, Infants, and Children. WIC provides the following at no cost: healthy foods, nutrition education and counseling, breastfeeding support, and referrals for health care and community services.
