The Human Family Tree Showing of The Human Family Tree -- May 7, 2014

The Goddard Diversity and Civility Creative Learning Group invites all employees to Bldg. 33, Room H114 on Wednesday, May 7 from 12 to 1 p.m. to watch the National Geographic Channel documentary that sets out to trace the ancestral footsteps of all humanity. Narrated by Kevin Bacon, The Human Family Tree travels to one of the most diverse corners of the world - Queens, N.Y. - to demonstrate how we all share common ancestors who embarked on very different journeys. Regardless of race, nationality or religion, all of us can trace our ancient origin back to the cradle of humanity, East Africa.

There is a direct relationship between bullying and high turnover, bullying and stress related health issues, bullying and bottom line results. If you ignore it, you are part of the problem! Have you ever felt victimized, put upon, powerless to address an issue? According to Stosh, "Honesty does not have to be used as a bludgeon. There are ways to confront and be respectfully assertive."

A few of the things we learned about:
  • Setting boundaries
  • Recognizing our own triggers
  • Responding to put-downs
  • Identifying how we can create our own victimization
  • Confronting the "This is the way I am syndrome"

Sleep disturbance is surprisingly common, and is strongly linked to mood, physical health, weight, memory, and performance. Fortunately there is much we can do to improve sleep. We'll explore what we know about sleep in civilians and the military, and what does and doesn't work to improve sleep quality and quantity.
