CNA students at Job Corps

Academics

In addition to career training, Collbran Job Corps also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. Courses in independent living, employability skills, and social skills are offered in order to help students transition into the workplace. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential.

GED/High School Diploma

One of our top goals at Collbran Job Corps is to ensure that every qualified student obtains his or her GED/high school diploma prior to leaving the center. Students who don't already have a high school diploma upon their arrival at Collbran can enroll into our GED program.

Students can also earn their high school diplomas through our partnership with Grand Mesa High School. To enroll in this program, a student must have at least 15 or high school credits. Once all required credits have been earned, a high school diploma is awarded to the student.

ACT Work Keys Assessment

We provide ACT WorkKeys assessments to all qualified students. These assessments are used by a wide variety of employers for hiring and promotional opportunities by evaluating applicant and employee skills. The results of these assessments can enhance our graduates' portfolios as they enter the workforce.

To prepare for the ACT WorkKeys assessments, our students use a computer-based application called KeyTrain, developed by ACT. KeyTrain is also used in our high school diploma program and is available in all our computer labs and on dorm computers.

Certifications

CPR Certification

Our center provides monthly certification training in CPR, first aid, automated electronic defibrillators, and blood borne pathogens. This training is taught by staff and student instructors who have been certified by the American Red Cross. This certification course includes eight hours of Red Cross training videos and hands-on training.

Students who achieve CPR certification and are bilingual can assist the American Red Cross in teaching CPR classes to the local Hispanic community.

ServSafe Certification

In ServSafe Certification training, students learn the essentials of food service safety. This certification is especially important for students in our Culinary Arts career technical training program.
