Center Life

A typical day at Collbran Job Corps is full of activities to help our students prepare for the real world. Students get up early and spend the majority of their day receiving academic and hands-on career technical training.

After class, students study or hang out with friends before dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, students may do chores in their dorms or spend their downtime studying. Most students are in bed by 10 PM in order to rest for the next day's tasks.

Recreation

Collbran Job Corps boasts one of the best recreation programs in the nation. Students find our recreational activities to be a fun and exciting way to meet new friends, socialize, and just relax and unwind at the end of the day. Some of these activities are arts and crafts, billiards, bowling, ice skating, and karaoke. We also schedule dances and shopping trips for our students' enjoyment. Other notable recreational programs at our center are detailed below.

Intramural Sports

We have a intramural sports program that includes dormitory competitions, co-ed leisure leagues, and staff vs. student events. Students can compete as teams in basketball, flag football, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball.

Varsity Sports

Our students also have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular high school varsity and junior varsity sports through the local school district. Students can participate in basketball, football, softball, track and field, and volleyball. Students involved in varsity and junior varsity sports must meet specific eligibility requirements.

Our varsity teams' proudly sport the name "Collbran Eagles". Our varsity co-ed softball team plays in a league in Grand Junction, Colorado. Our varsity volleyball team also plays in a co-ed league in Grand Junction. Our varsity basketball team often competes against our sister center, Weber Basin Job Corps.

Eagle Corps Robotics

Eagle Corps Robotics (Team 1158) is the only team from a Job Corps center competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). FRC is a unique varsity sport where teams build robots from pre-determined sets of parts and enter them in regional and national competitions. FRC is sponsored by For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), a non-profit educational organization founded to excite students about the fields of science and technology.

Because Job Corps is an open program with students enrolling and graduating year-round, Eagle Corps Robotics is always a rookie team while other schools put together seasoned teams over a four-year period. Despite this, our team has won several major awards including:

  • 2008 SDC GM Industrial Design
  • 2007 AZ Motorola Quality
  • 2006 Colorado Engineering Inspiration Award
  • 2006 Colorado Regional Champion
  • 2005 Colorado Regional Finalist
  • 2004 Colorado Johnson & Johnson Sportsmanship Award
  • 2003 Washington Judge's Award
  • 2003 Washington Regional Finalist

Outdoor Program

Our Outdoor Program offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of wilderness-oriented trips and activities. The program focuses on stewardship of public lands and the concept of minimal human impact on the environment. Activities include camping, fishing, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, rafting, skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.

Student Recognition

We believe that student success should not only be recognized, it should be celebrated. We celebrate our students' success through Student of the Month awards, Jacketed Leaderships, award certificates, and awards banquets.

Safety

Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe and secure environment. That's why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence and drugs. Any student who breaks this policy will be dismissed immediately from Job Corps.
