TapeStation Abbreviated Guide

  1. Make sure nucleic acid concentration is in the specified range (see table below).
  2. For DNA, make sure that the fragment(s) size is in the specified range (35-1000 bp).
  3. Submit the form.
  4. Bring 1 ul of your sample in 200 ul tube with attached cap
  5. Report can be placed into your folder or sent to you by e-mail.
  6. Note: Samples are processed by pairs. You will be charged for N+1 samples if N is not an even number
  7. Table: Concentration and size ranges:
  DNA standard RNA standard
Size Range 35 – 1000 bp
Sensitivity 0.05 ng/μL 2 ng/μL
Quantitative Range 0.1 – 50 ng/μL 2 – 100 ng/μL
Sample Volume Required 1 μL 1 μL

Brief introduction to the TapeStation:

  1. What is it? It is an automatic electrophoresis system that provides qualitative and quantitative characteristics of the sample
  1. Why would I want to use it?
    1. Fast
    2. Sensitive
    3. Requires only 1 ul of the sample
    4. Automatic and precise band size determination
    5. Concentration of each band is provided in nanograms and nanomols
    6. Automatic report generation; no need for cameras; no manual annotation
  1. What kind of samples can I bring? Model that we have can analyze nucleic acids only. RNA quality determination is the most popular application. Others are DNA digestion/fragmentation and PCR samples analysis.
  1. Price? $3 per sample. However, only even number of samples can be processed. So, to be precise, the price is $6 per 2 samples.
  1. How much time it takes? For single digit number of samples it takes 10 min. For large number of samples advertised speed is approx. 1 min per sample.
