February 29 , 2016NOVELNY Database Survey Results and and NYLA Forum Results Thank you to everyone who completed the NOVELNY database survey in the fall. The State Library received over 1400 responses. Thank you also to those who participated in the 2020 Vision for NOVELNY Forum at the 2015 NYLA Conference. Survey Results. The documents posted include survey summaries by question and library type, survey comments, suggested databases and suggested free websites. Forum Results. The page includes a brief overview of the forum, comments and suggestions from the forum, observations regarding the comments, next steps, and an opportunity to fill out a survey that contains the same questions that were asked at the forum. While the database survey and the forum results are helpful when selecting databases for 2017 other factors are also considered. Content, pricing and usage statistics are also important factors. October 1, 2015Fall 2015 Opinion Survey The New York State Library is beginning to prepare for the selection of NOVELny databases for 2017. We would appreciate feedback from the library community. Below is a link to a 14-question survey about the databases, which should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Please share your opinions! The survey is available here. A pdf of the survey is also available so that all of the questions can be viewed before completing the online survey. The deadline for completing the survey is Thursday, November 12, 2015. August 7, 2015Continuation of Electronic Products for NOVELny NOTE: On August 7, the National Newspaper Index will become part of Infotrac Newsstand and separate links to National Newspaper Index will no longer work. The databases listed below are freely available to over 5,600 public, school, academic and special libraries currently registered for NOVELny and to individuals who are residents of New York State that visit http://www.novelnewyork.org. If your library is not registered please see the For Librarians link on the website or contact the NOVELny Help Desk toll-free at 877-277-0250 or in the Capital District at 518-486-6012. The databases are available through geoIP authentication (also referred to as geolocation). Geolocation is a method to allow or disallow a user access to a database based on his/her geographic location as determined from their IP address. If a patron is accessing the databases through a library website or the NOVELny portal while in New York he/she will be able to enter the database without entering a username/password, library card number or a driver license number. These updates will make for a more user-friendly experience on any type of device as well as increase accessibility for those with disabilities like low vision or blindness, and create a common look between our most popular resources.
