The river section that is the subject of this guidebook is the South Carolina designated Lynches Scenic River which flows roughly 111 miles from U.S. Highway 15 Bridge in Lee County to its confluence with the Great Pee Dee River, another South Carolina State Scenic River. The study region covers the area between the South Carolina-Georgia border (32°N) to just north of the South Carolina-North Carolina border (34°N), and between 30 miles inland to the 200 m bathymetric depth contour. Various data layers included are: distribution of habitats, biological resources, and human use. All of the data layers can be downloaded by the public from the DNR's GIS data resources site at no cost.

Intertidal Oyster Reef GIS Data & Imagery
This data set contains mapped boundaries of intertidal oyster reefs and washed shell deposits found along the SC coast.

This data was produced as part of the South Carolina Oyster Beds Imaging effort to support the mapping of intertidal oyster reefs for management of the state's shellfish resources. The project area covered those sections of the SC coastal zone where oysters had historically been mapped by the SCDNR in the 1980's. Photos are dated from 2003 to 2006.

GAP is a national program to address the difficult issues of land cover mapping, animal habitat characterization, and biodiversity conservation assessment at the state, regional, and national levels.
