CAPT Dave Edgecomb

Captain Dave Edgecomb enlisted in the United States Navy in May of 1983 and graduated from Naval Academy Preparatory School. He accepted an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, and was commissioned with a degree in Mechanical Engineering with the class of 1988. He attended flight training in Pensacola, Florida, and was awarded his pilot’s Wings in March of 1989.

Completing Fleet Replacement Squadron training at HSL-41 in February of 1990, Edgecomb joined the "Scorpions" of HSL-49. He deployed as detachment Operations Officer in support of Operation DESERT STORM in USS MOBILE BAY (CG-53) and as detachment Maintenance Officer while conducting Counter Narcotics Operations in USS CLEVELAND (LPD-7). Additionally, he served as Assistant Training Officer and Squadron NATOPS Officer.

In March of 1994, Captain Edgecomb returned to HSL-41 as an instructor pilot. During his tour with the "Seahawks", he served as Training Devices Officer and Commander, Naval Air Forces Pacific, Fleet NATOPS Evaluator. In May of 1996, he reported to Commander, THIRD Fleet, as Aviation Schedules Officer. Following his tour at THIRD Fleet, he was temporarily assigned to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Light Wing U.S. Pacific Fleet as the Wing Administration Officer.

Captain Edgecomb then reported to HSL-51 in Atsugi, Japan. With the "Warlords" of HSL-51, he served as the Detachment TWO Officer-in-Charge, deployed in USS MOBILE BAY (CG-53) and USS COWPENS (CG-63). He completed his tour as Squadron Operations Officer and reported to the Chief of Naval Personnel in Washington, D.C., in January of 2002, where he served as the Joint Officer Management and Policy Officer until May of 2004.

Captain Edgecomb reported as Executive Officer of HSL-45 in February of 2005 and acted as the Executive Officer for HSL West Coast detachments deployed in support of Hurricane Katrina relief operations. He assumed command of the HSL-45 "Wolfpack" in May of 2006. During his Command tour, HSL-45 earned two consecutive Battle Efficiency Awards, two consecutive Wing Maintenance Awards, and the 2006 CNO Safety Award.

Following his tour with the "Wolfpack", Captain Edgecomb reported to United States Northern Command where he served in the Future Operations Division (J35). In August 2010, Captain Edgecomb reported to the National War College in Washington, D.C., where he earned a master’s degree in National Security Strategy. Captain Edgecomb served as commander of Naval Air Station Corpus Christi from July of 2011 to June of 2014.

He has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Air Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various service medals and ribbons.

Captain Edgecomb is currently serving as the Chief of Staff of Chief of Naval Air Training Command in Corpus Christi, TX.
