Court Services Division

The Court Services Division provides numerous services for the West Virginia judicial system and citizens.

The division is the liaison between the Supreme Court Administrative Office and County Circuit Clerk offices, and division staff members serve on several court system boards and committees. Division staff members work with the Court Improvement Program Board and manage the Board’s Child Abuse and Neglect Database. The division updates the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault and Stalking Benchbooks and the Circuit Clerk Manual. Staff members developed and manage the Domestic Violence Registry and reporting system.

The Court Services Division manages an average of $5 million to $7 million in federal and state grants annually and administers the programs many of those grants fund. The division also manages all county field grants. The division is responsible for all Adult and Juvenile Drug Court finances and works with the Probation Services Division on the establishment and evaluation of Juvenile Drug Courts and the Family Court Services Division on the establishment and evaluation of the pilot Domestic Violence Court in Kanawha County.

The division also administers and conducts statistical and applied research, evaluates projects, and gathers and analyzes court statistics data and information for the Supreme Court Annual Report. The division produces the Annual Jury Report and manages the Child Abuse and Neglect Database, which provides both case level and case load information, and the Juvenile Justice and Adult Probation Databases, which provide information on probation cases. The division constantly strives to develop ways to improve criminal and civil history reporting to the federal government. Division staff members also provide statistical information upon request to circuit and family court judges, magistrates, circuit clerks, attorneys, court officials, federal and state agencies, organizations, national and local researchers, the press, and the general public.

The division manages and pays all leases for space occupied by family courts in West Virginia, updates division-related forms as needed.
