Fees must be paid online. Use Master Card, VISA or Discover credit or debit cards. If you do not have this type of personal credit or debit card, you can obtain these pre-paid cards at local stores to use for renewal.

The Ohio eLicense Center website provides online license and certificate verification for RNs, LPNs, Prescriptive and Certificate of Authority Holders, Dialysis Technicians, Medication Aides and Community Health Workers.
Recent Changes:
If you hold an active LPN license in Ohio, your current license is now legally valid through October 31, 2016 due to a recent change in Ohio law.
If you hold an active RN license in Ohio, your current license is now legally valid through October 31, 2017 due to a recent change in Ohio law.
Attention COA and CTP Holders:
When searching the new verification portal, Certificate of Authority (COAs) and Certificates to Prescribe (CTPs) have been rolled up under their related RN licenses. To locate the COA and CTP credentials, you must search by the licensee's RN.123456 number or name.
Known Issues:
- When searching we recommend using just the licensees first and last name or their license number. Some users have reported difficulties when selecting "State" as part of their search criteria.
- Attention Internet Exporer 11 users, the eLicense website may not function properly when using IE 11 in "Compatibility Mode".

The Joint Commission and the NCQA consider on-line status information as fulfilling the primary source requirement for verification of licensure in compliance with their respective credentialing standards. Employers, please remind your nursing staff to update their mailing address with the board when you receive an employee address update.

Verification of a License to Another State
Ohio is a Nursys state. Nursys is a national database for verification of nurse licensure. If you hold a license in a Nursys state, you must request verification online at www.nursys.com. If you do not know if your state is a part of the Nursys system, you can view this information on the Nursys website.
Note to Employers
Please remind your nursing staff to update their mailing address with the board when you receive an employee address update.
Wallet Cards
As of February 1, 2009, the Ohio Board of Nursing eliminated the issuance of wallet cards. Employers and others should verify a licensure or certificate status by online verification. A screen print of the verification page can serve as proof of licensure/certification for the date printed.

Nurses endorsing from Ohio to another state must use NURSYS.
The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) offers Nursys e-Notify, the national nurse licensure notification system that automatically delivers licensure and publicly available discipline data directly to employers as the data is entered into the Nursys database by participating U.S. boards of nursing.
The e-Notify system alerts subscribers when changes are made to a nurse’s record, including changes to license status, license expirations, pending license renewals, and public disciplinary action/resolutions and alerts. If a nurse’s license is about to expire, employers have the option to receive a notification about the expiration date.
Nurse employers are able to subscribe to this service to track licensure and discipline information for little or no charge (cost is dependent on the number of nurses enrolled in the system). The first 100 nurses in a facility registered with Nursys e-Notify are free of charge. After that, each nurse is $1 per year. If an employer has 99 nurses they pay nothing; if they have 200 nurses, the cost per year is $100.
