Non-attorneys are not permitted to bring cell phones (including BlackBerrys) or any other device with wireless communication capabilities into court facilities within the Eastern District of Michigan. As defined in the provisions of E.D. Mich. LR 83.31(f)(2) attorneys appearing in connection with any judicial proceeding or presenting evidence of bar membership may bring a cell phone or any other device with wireless communication capabilities into a court facility within the Eastern District of Michigan. In Ann Arbor the only area designated for attorney cell phone use is the lobby. Identification and Security RequirementsValid picture identification is required for entry into court facilities within the Eastern District of Michigan, and all persons are required to pass through security similar to airport screening. Firearms, knives (including pocket knives), explosives, and other weapons are prohibited. Also prohibited are potential weapons such as scissors, letter openers, mace/pepper spray and screw drivers.
