As an alternative to traditional incarceration, the U.S. Probation Office for the District of Columbia operates a Location Monitoring Program. The technology we use includes Radio Frequency, Global Positioning System, and Voice Recognition. These technologies may be used in conjunction with traditional methods that include curfews or 24 hour restrictions to the home. Using location monitoring systems allow our officers to manage the risks a probationer poses to the community by verifying their location and subsequently their compliance with the conditions of supervision.
