A Much Moved PeopleRepairing Beauty
David Ambrose: A Mid-Career Retrospective

Through January 15, 2017
Main Building – 1st Floor Gallery

Final weeks to see the complex, richly colored works of artist David Ambrose.

This exhibition presents a retrospective of the work of painter David Ambrose (b. 1960), who lives and works in Bound Brook, NJ. Throughout his career, Mr. Ambrose has been exploring elements found in or on architectural facades, interiors, or floor plans in his richly colored, intensely worked, paintings on hand-stitched lace or pierced paper.

Ambrose observes similarities between lace patterns and the tracery and stonework of the great cathedrals. His work can be seen as a blending of the perceived “feminine” art of lacemaking and the “masculine” activity of building.

The exhibition, comprised of over 75 works including early realist works, sketchbooks, artist books and paintings on both lace and paper, features works from 1985 through this year.

The exhibition, on view through January 15, 2017, is supported in part by the New Jersey State Museum Foundation through the Lucille M. Paris Fund.
