NJ State Museum Celebrates Patriots Week!
The Museum will host several programs to help celebrate Trenton’s annual Patriots Week.
1776 Sky Talk

Before the 1 pm show

Just prior to the 1 pm showing of “Dream to Discovery”, guests will see a live demonstration of the sky set to December 25, 1776. Learn about the constellations and planets that occupied the sky on the stormy evening when George Washington crossed the Delaware!
Admission: $7 adult; $5 child (twelve and under)
Civil War Flag Unveiling

History buffs will enjoy the unveiling of the latest rotation of historic flags from the NJ Civil War Flag Collection. Civil War re-enactors will be on hand to do the ceremonial unveiling of the flags while the history of each is discussed. The NJ Civil War Flag Collection is one of the largest collections of its kind in the nation.
Colonial Music Concert - The Colonial Music Institute

Experience a free concert of music that would have been popular in colonial times! A unique, rich and moving musical performance using period instruments and costuming dating from the Colonial Period through the War of 1812. David and Ginger Hildebrand specialize in researching, recording, and performing early American music and have presented concerts and educational programs throughout the country.

Small Explorers Museum Family GuidesLook for Scavenger Hunts at the information desk upon arrival at the museum. We have many themes to choose from so your family can make a game out of visiting all of the galleries for clues! Look for in-gallery activities located throughout the museum including a Natural History Journal, making your own state seal, decorating a Paleolithic pot and much more! Now available in the Museum lobby and in Discovery Den, Small Explorers Museum Family Guides.

Designed with children ages 0-5 in mind, these picture cards depict objects in the collection along with questions to help our youngest visitors learn new words, explore and observe. Each card includes a recommended book you can find at your local library and an activity you can do at home.
Trenton Makes WORDS!
Trenton Makes—Words! is a community partnership between the New Jersey State Museum, The Children’s Home Society, and the Trenton Community Music School.

We offer a series of interactive, vocabulary-building programs for Trenton families and their children ages 0-5: Family Engagement Series, Pop-Up Sessions, and four Wonderful WORDS Fairs.

Storytime
Join us on the 3rd weekend of every month for a story and a craft activity. Story time is always at 2:00 pm. Stories relate to current exhibits and collections and are always entertaining. Crafts are simple and a great way to remember the fun you had at the Museum!

A Snowy Owl Story

Written especially for preschool age children, this is a story of conservation, habitat, migration and adaptation. After the story families can create a forest animal puppet show in Discovery Den and make an owl puppet to take home. Visit the owl on display in the Natural History Hall and learn more about owls that live in New Jersey.

This award winning picture book tells the story of local artist Horace Pippen. From the time he was a child Horace loved to draw but he didn’t become well known until much later in life. Today museums in Philadelphia, New York, Washington DC and many more have collected his work. You can see one of his pieces right here in this Museum!
