4th International Symposium on Paleohistology

ISPH 2017 LogoOn behalf of the New Jersey State Museum (NJSM), the Organizing Committee is honored to invite you to participate in the 4th International Symposium on Paleohistology (ISPH).

ISPH will convene from Monday, July 10th, through Wednesday July 12th, 2017 at the NJSM in Trenton, New Jersey, United States of America.

Pre-symposium workshops will take place on Saturday, July 8th and Sunday July 9th. Lab and classroom space is limited, so advanced registration is recommended.

An informal welcoming reception is planned for Sunday, July 9th at Princeton University’s historic Guyot Hall (in nearby Princeton, New Jersey). All participants are encouraged to attend this social program, which has become the traditional start to the ISPH symposium.

Guyot Hall is within walking distance of the official symposium hotel, the Nassau Inn. The Committee has secured a discounted rate from the hotel. Please see the Accommodations page for details

Post-symposium field trips will be conducted on Thursday, July 13th and Friday July 14th. Advanced registration is required for both trips.

The Natural History collections of the NJSM will be available for research visits throughout the meeting. Appointments are required, and can be made by emailing Registrar Rodrigo Pellegrini.

Other area museums like the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, and the Mütter Museum of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, will also consider collections research visit requests by advanced appointment.

Be advised that they only operate Monday through Friday for such purposes, and interested parties must schedule appointments directly.

If you need a personalized letter of invitation to obtain a visa, or to gain authorization from your institution to attend the symposium, contact Rodrigo Pellegrini.

NJSM will produce a Special Publication following the symposium. All participants that submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation will be eligible to submit a full research paper version for peer-review and inclusion in the publication, at no cost to the author(s).

More information on the Special Publication, made possible by the Richards Fund of the New Jersey State Museum Foundation, will be provided after abstract acceptance.

Every effort will be made to widely distribute any circulars and promotional materials for the symposium; if you haven’t already done so, please sign up for our mailing list by sending us a request

ISPH 2017 is possible in part thanks to the support of the New Jersey State Museum Foundation. We look forward to welcoming you to New Jersey in July of 2017.

About the ISPH 2017 Logo
The ISPH 2017 logo shows the silhouette of NJSM 11053, a nearly complete skull of Mosasaurus maximus that has become emblematic of the New Jersey State Museum. The specimen has been used repeatedly for dental histological studies by NJSM scientists for previous ISPH symposia, and is on display in the museum galleries. The silhouette is over a micrograph of Haversian canals in Hipparion by Santiago Gomez, which serves not only as a background, but as a colorful link to paleohistology.
