Indian Education provides educational opportunities and guidance to be successful life long learners through parental, staff, and community involvement by preparing Tribal members of all ages to be successful through our support and promotion of the use of our traditional culture and language.

K-12 Education

Four Youth Intervention Specialists advocating for students by working with the parents and the school system, providing student services, sports assistance, high school senior expenses, and driver's education assistance. Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) with academic lessons in the morning and fun outdoor activities in the afternoon.

Gneejawnisananik "Our Children's Camp"

One four day overnight session held in Alden, MI, focusing on prevention and cultural activities. Target ages: 8-14. Coordinated by Life Long Learning.

Heritage Library

Provides a unique collection of books focusing on Native American community, self help, child care, children's books, nature and arts, graphic novels, biographies, language and many more. Also available: audiotapes, video tapes, CD-ROMs, reference books, periodicals, subscriptions, and Internet access. Open to the community and located at Life Long Learning building in Peshawbestown.

Kitchi Minogining Tribal School

A state recognized non-public school that operates four classrooms: Peshawbestown, Traverse City, Benzonia, and Charlevoix. Primary function is to provide curriculum and instruction for high school students. Staffed by certified teachers Cindi McIlrath and Christina Van Orden. Use of State-approved curriculum issuing high school credit and diplomas which are accepted by public schools and state colleges and universities. Also offering online Ed-Options and HS/GED courses.

Title VII Indian Education

Title VII - GTB coordinates Title VII Services in four area schools: Elk Rapids, Benzie, Frankfort-Elberta, and Kingsley. Providing tutoring, school supplies, in-school support and other related services. Two tutors cover the four schools.
