Volunteer Services

The New Mexico Corrections Department appreciates the hard work and dedication of our faithful volunteers who serve our incarcerated and those returning from prison to the community. Our volunteers are an invaluable resource to our department as they provide hope, examples of neighbors who care, reduce recidivism and help to make our community a safer and better place.

This section of our website will include contact information on our chaplains who are the key point persons for our institutional volunteer programs and information on the participating ministries & volunteer groups.

We recognize the priority of our volunteers having access to relevant training materials that will assist them serve with confidence in the prisons and that will also assist them in the recruitment of friends who are interested in becoming volunteers. Toward that end, our revised volunteer handbook is provided as a training resource to fulfill our goal of providing standardized training materials for all of our state and private prison volunteers.

We appreciate your investment in the lives of the men and women in our prisons and trust that the handbook will be a resource that you can use as a handy reference guide.
