The office of Internal Audits and Standards Compliance (IASC) is responsible for providing clear, concise executive direction while monitoring and auditing. Corrective action follow-ups are submitted from all New Mexico Corrections Department entities. This includes state and private correctional facilities, Parole and Probation, Corrections Industries, Training Academy and Administrations Central Office. The focus of IASC Bureau is private prison contract compliance, American Correctional Association compliance, quality assurance and conditions of confinement for the incarcerated. The bureau is also responsible for NMCD policy revisions and other compliance efforts related to the prevention of major prison litigation.

The Internal Audits and Standards Compliance (IASC) is driven to promote the core values of the NM Corrections Department by maintaining compliance with New Mexico State Statutes (NMSA), New Mexico Administrative Code (NMAC), American Correctional Association (ACA) Standards, and NMCD Policies and Procedures.

The Office of Internal Audits and Standards Compliance (IASC) strives to accomplish this mission by:

  • Policies & Procedures: Development of new policies and revision of the existing NMCD policies. The Department maintains compliance with ACA requirements by reviewing all policies annually.
  • Audits & Reporting: Conduct annual audits of all facilities (public and private), receive quarterly audit reports, compile percentages of compliance or non-compliance and disseminate to appropriate Directors, Deputy Directors, Region Managers, Wardens, or Deputy Wardens for corrective action. We seek to ensure best practices and improve our quality of service.
