Hours of Operation:

The Intake Office is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Courthouse Access:

The only public entrance to the courthouse is located on Hogan Street. All individuals entering the building are required to proceed through a metal detector and have any bags, packages, purses, etc. examined through an x-ray machine. Electronic devices, including cellular phones, lap top computers, sound/recording equipment, photographic/broadcasting equipment, are prohibited absent a court order. A standing order pertaining to attorney utilization of personal electronic devices in the courthouse has been issued. Please visit our Attorney Resource page for a copy of the order. Firearms, knives, pocket knives, chemical sprays and other weapons not specified are also prohibited.

Wheelchair access is available via ramps located at both north and south ends of the courthouse entrance.

Parking Availability

Disabled jurors may refer to the Florida Statutes by visiting www.flsenate.gov. In addition, you may contact the Jury Staff for additional information on disabled parking in this area.

The Courthouse does not have a public parking facility. There are a number of parking lots within walking distance that have daily fees. In addition, there are a number of coin operated parking meters nearby

Parking Information For Jurors Only:

All jurors should park in the City of Jacksonville's Public Library Parking Garage. The entrance to the Public Library Parking Garage is on Duval Street, between Laura and Main Streets (the address is 33 West Duval Street). Parking at the Public Library Parking Garage will be validated by the Jury Staff. Please visit the following websites for more information:

Juror Attire & Conduct:

Jurors are expected to conduct themselves with reserve and courtesy, and when appearing at Court, to dress appropriately to preserve the dignity of the Court.

Drop Box Information:

The After Hours Depository Box is available for case papers to be filed in the Jacksonville Division of the United States District Court when the Clerk’s Office is not open. It is located on the 9th floor, immediately outside the main double doors to Suite 9-150. It will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The depository box is not available on weekends or federal holidays.

 

Jacksonville Historical Information:

 

Jacksonville is one of the oldest venues for a federal courthouse in the District. An ornate 1895 structure, it served as the Post Office, the home of numerous federal offices, and the District Court. It survived the Great Fire of 1901 but was replaced by a larger and equally ornate building on Monroe Street in 1933.

 

That courthouse, with massive marble hallways and wood paneled courtrooms, served as the U.S. Courthouse and Post Office until 2003. That year, construction was completed on the present courthouse. Near the heart of historic Jacksonville, almost on the same site as the previous buildings, the current courthouse has state of the art courtroom technology and the highest levels of security.

 

In 2006, President George W. Bush signed a bill designating this courthouse as the John Milton Bryan Simpson United States Courthouse. Judge Simpson was appointed to the federal bench in 1950 and joined the Middle District in 1962. He later served on both the Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals. His decisions were instrumental in desegregating schools and other facilities in the Middle District. The U.S. District Court, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and three judges of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit occupy this facility.
