David Motl

David Motl began his Federal career in 1986, as an accounting intern with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Federal Prison Industries, United States Penitentiary, Terre Haute, Indiana. His career in finance quickly progressed serving as Operating Accountant, Assistant Business Manager, and Business Manager in various Federal Prisons in Texas, Indiana and North Carolina. By 1996, David was selected as Accounting Officer for Federal Prison Industries in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Motl's responsibilities continued to increase with the Federal Prisons as Superintendent of Industries for the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. As a member of the Warden's Executive Staff, Mr. Motl was responsible for the Prison Industries program which oversaw the employment of over 350 inmates and operations of four factories. After two years of service in Fort Worth, Mr. Motl was appointed Associate Warden, Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey. In this position, Mr. Motl was responsible for the largest Prison Industry Operation in the Federal Bureau of Prisons, consisting of five factories and employing over 900 inmates, as well as educational and recreation programs for the 4,000 inmates housed at the facility. He later returned to Washington, D.C. as Deputy Controller for Federal Prison Industries.

In June 2006, Mr. Motl was selected as the Deputy Chief Financial Officer for the United States Mint and in May 2012, he was selected as the Chief Financial Officer. From January 2016 through January 2017, Mr. Motl served as Acting Deputy Director for Management. Effective January 20, 2017, Mr. Motl became Acting Principal Deputy Director of the United States Mint.

Mr. Motl has a Bachelor's of Science degree in accounting from Indiana State University. During his career, Mr. Motl has received many awards and recognitions, including the Mint's Rittenhouse Medal for Excellence in Leadership and the Federal Prisons Industries Award for Excellence. He lives in Partlow, Virginia with his wife Contessa and has four children Drew, Joshua, Sarah and Joanna.
