Even though you have not been on active duty long, it is important that you know your mobilization and military service will earn valuable benefits for you. Once you have completed 180 days of continuous active service, you will be eligible to receive preseparation counseling and complete DD Form 2648-1 online or at an ACAP Center. By using the information you learn in this briefing to research service providers and benefits while you are on active duty, you will be well on your way to planning and preparing for your transition from active duty. Congress has directed the military Services to provide each transitioning service member timely preseparation counseling prior to separation. DD Form 2648-1 is your proof that you have received this required counseling. You owe it to yourself to participate in a counseling session as soon as possible. You can complete DD Form 2648 online, at your convenience, or schedule a briefing at your ACAP Center. Following preseparation counseling, you can use this website to receive employment assistance training, write resumes and cover letters and communicate with a counselor while you are on active duty.
