Job Corps student playing pool

Center Life

A typical day at Flint Hills Job Corps is full of activities to help our students prepare for the real world. Students get up early and spend the majority of their day receiving academic and hands-on career technical training.

After class, students study or hang out with friends before dinner in the cafeteria. After dinner, students may do chores in their dorms or spend their downtime studying. Most students are in bed by 10 PM in order to rest for the next day's tasks.

Recreation

Our weight room

Flint Hills Job Corps boasts one of the best recreation programs in the nation. Students find our recreational activities to be a fun and exciting way to meet new friends, socialize, and just relax and unwind at the end of the day. Recreation activities that we offer include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Billiards
  • Bowling
  • DJ club and studio
  • Drama club
  • Karaoke
  • Movies
  • Poetry club
  • Spirit/dance squad
  • Seasonal sports (basketball, softball, kickball, dodgeball, and volleyball)
  • Trips to Kansas State University athletic events

We also have on-center events such as banquets, dances, ice cream socials, pep rallies, pool tournaments, and talent contests for our students.

Student Government Association (SGA)

The Student Government Association is an organization that allows our students to have a voice in our center's operation. SGA members attend and participate in committee meetings, activities councils, dorm government, town hall meetings and administer student satisfaction surveys. A student leadership board is elected by the students throughout the year and participates in developing new projects and activities for student involvement.

Community Involvement (Service Learning)

Our students are provided with many opportunities to develop their leadership, employment, and social skills as they give back to the local community. These events and activities include National Youth Service Day, Make A Difference Day, National Job Shadow Day, United Way events, Flint Hills Breadbasket meals and fund raisers, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, American Red Cross, and many others.

Safety

Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe and secure environment. That's why we have a Zero Tolerance Policy for violence, assault and drug use/distribution. Any student who breaks this policy will be dismissed immediately from Job Corps.
