USAID Staff Care Live Online Discussion Groups

The Staff Care Program, through its partnerships, offers several moderated discussion groups where you (and your household members) can explore work and life experiences with other participants and learn from expert facilitators who offer insights and productive guidance on a particular subject. These discussion groups meet monthly and are listed below:

Adult Caregivers

Caregivers of older loved ones are welcome to share caregiving challenges and experiences, and to learn about resources and programs designed to help. Monthly topics are scheduled from 1pm - 2pm (ET) and include:

  • Wednesday, November 16, 2016; 1:00-2:00pm ET - Long Distance Caregiver's Holiday Survival Guide

Sessions are hosted by Sherri Snelling, CEO and founder of the Caregiving Club and author of A Cast of Caregivers - Celebrity Stories to Help You Prepare to Care, who is a nationally recognized expert on America's 65 million family caregivers with special emphasis on how to help caregivers balance self-care while caring for a loved one.

Parenting Your Teen

Parents will appreciate the opportunity to freely and confidentially discuss strategies and techniques that arise during the challenging teen years. Monthly topics are scheduled from 12pm - 1pm (EST) and include:

  • Thursday, November 10, 2016 1:00-2:00pm ET - Friends & Families

Sessions are facilitated by Wendy Kaufman, a consultant and expert on teens. Wendy has been teaching teenagers for over 20 years on a variety of social issues and serves as a consultant to many school systems on the topic of teenagers and stress. Wendy has a Master's Degree in Counseling and has three children and two stepchildren...all teenagers.

Parenting a Child with Special Needs

Participants of this group are able to share their experiences with other individuals who are parenting a child or loved one with special needs while getting support and guidance from a special needs advocate and expert. Monthly topics are scheduled from 1pm - 2pm (ET) and include:

  • Tuesday, November 15, 2016 1:00-2:00p ET - Effective Communication

This group is facilitated by Roxanne Bellamy-Campbell, who earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and a B.A. in psychology specializing her training and practice to serve adolescents and their families. She is the mother of a child who has developed special needs, and she continues to expand her understanding, knowledge, and sensitivity to individuals and families overcoming the associated challenges and celebrating associated benefits.

Financial Wellness

Participants in the discussion group will explore strategies and techniques for planning financial goals and managing money to meet those goals. Monthly topics are scheduled from 1pm - 2pm (ET) and include:

  • Wednesday, November 9, 2016 1:00-2:00pm ET - Intro to Social Security

Sessions are facilitated by Henry Gorecki, a Certified Financial Planner with extensive experience in wealth management at major brokerage firms. Henry founded and currently manages his own investment firm.

Your Healthy Lifestyle

Participants in the discussion group will share their journey to a healthier life while getting guidance and support from a Certified Health Coach. Monthly topics are scheduled from 1pm - 2pm (ET) and include:

  • Thursday, November 17, 2016 1:00-2:00pm ET - Relaxation Techniques for Stress Reduction

This group is facilitated by Ellen Martino, a Certified Health Coach who received her training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She is a passionate advocate of eating well and firmly believes that we can positively impact our health and well-being with the food and lifestyle choices we make every day and that even small changes can make a big difference!
