Commanding Officer

CDR Brice D. Casey

 

Commander Brice D. Casey is the Commanding Officer of Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility (FACSFAC) San Diego. A native of Yorktown, VA, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in May of 1997 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering. After commissioning, he earned a Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland in December of 1997 before reporting for primary flight training. He was designated a Naval Aviator in June of 1999.

 

Commander Casey reported to the Gladiators of Strike Fighter Squadron 106 (VFA-106) at NAS Oceana, Virginia for initial training in the F/A-18C Hornet before joining the Fleet with the Sunliners of Strike Fighter Squadron 81 (VFA-81). While attached to VFA-81, he deployed with Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN (CVW-17) onboard the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH (OSW) and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF).

 

In the summer of 2004 he reported to Patuxent River, Maryland as a member of the United States Naval Test Pilot School Class 127 and graduated in June of 2005. As part of his follow on test assignment to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 23 (VX-23) he conducted developmental flight test of the F/A-18A-G and served as part of F-35 Lightning II Integrated Test Force.

 

Commander Casey returned to NAS Oceana in 2007 to serve his Department Head tour with the Raging Bulls of Strike Fighter Squadron 37 (VFA-37). During his tour the Raging Bulls completed several combat deployments in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) as part of Carrier Air Wing THREE (CVW 3) onboard the USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75).

 

Returning to Patuxent River, Maryland he completed an acquisition tour at the Warfare Analysis and Integration Department at Naval Aviation Systems Command as an Integrated Product Team Lead. In June of 2014, he graduated from the National War College in Washington D.C. earning a Master’s Degree in National Security Strategy.

 

Commander Casey has accumulated over 2,000 flight hours in 25 different aircraft, with 410 carrier-arrested landings. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and various unit and campaign awards. Commander Casey is married to Ann Casey of Westminster, Maryland, who also serves in the Navy. They have two children Andrew and Aurora.

Executive Officer

CDR Shane A. Lansford

 

Commander Shane A. Lansford is the Executive Officer of Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility (FACSFAC) San Diego. A native of Fremont, California, he graduated from the University of California at Davis in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History.  In 1998, he completed Officer Candidate School and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy, and then he reported for Primary Flight Training with the Shooters of Training Squadron 6 (VT-6) at NAS Whiting Field, Florida. At NAS Meridian, Mississippi he completed Intermediate Jet Training with the Tigers of Training Squadron 9 (VT-9), and Advanced Jet Training with the Eagles of Training Squadron 7 (VT-7).  He was designated a Naval Aviator in February 2001.

 

 In April 2001, CDR Lansford reported to the Rough Raiders of Strike Fighter Squadron 125 (VFA-125) at NAS Lemoore, California for initial training in the FA-18C Hornet. Afterwards, he reported to the Vigilantes of Strike Fighter Squadron 151 (VFA-151), where he deployed twice with Carrier Air Wing TWO (CVW-2), first onboard USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64) supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF), and then onboard USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) supporting Operation UNIFIED ASSISTANCE.

 

 In September 2005, CDR Lansford graduated from the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and reported to the Outlaws of Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific (SFWSPAC) as a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor (SFTI), flying all models of the Hornet and Super Hornet. In March 2008, CDR Lansford was assigned to the Black Knights of Strike Fighter Squadron 154 (VFA-154) where he served as Squadron Training Officer and deployed to the Western Pacific with Carrier Air Wing NINE (CVW- 9) onboard USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN 74). In November 2009, he reported to the Black Aces of Strike Fighter Squadron 41 (VFA-41) as a Department Head, where he completed two combat deployments in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF), first with Carrier Air Wing ELEVEN (CVW- 11) onboard USS NIMITZ, and then with Carrier Air Wing NINE (CVW -9) onboard USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVW-74).

 

 In June 2013, CDR Lansford received a Master of Arts degree in National Security Studies from the U.S. Naval War College (USNWC), graduating with highest distinction.

 

 In September 2013, CDR Lansford reported to United States Pacific Command (USPACOM) at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii where he served as Deputy Chief of East/Southeast Asia Plans in the J54 Strategic Plans Division.

 

 Commander Lansford has accumulated over 2,700 flight hours in the F/A-18 and other aircraft, with 678 carrier-arrested landings. He has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (one individual with combat distinction; four Strike Flight awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, three Navy Commendation medals (one with combat distinction), two Navy Achievement medals, and various campaign and unit awards. He is married to the former Laura J. Ford and they have three children – Jacob, Nathan, and Lauren.

Senior Enlisted Leader

ACCS(AW/SW/IDW) Ronald J. Young

 

ACCS(AW/SW/IDW) Ronald J. Young is the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility (FACSFAC) San Diego. A native of Detroit, MI, he enlisted in the United States Navy in September 1993 on the Delayed Entry Program and reported for active duty to Recruit Training Command (RTC), Great Lake, Illinois on June 23, 1994.  

 

Upon graduation from RTC, he reported to Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) Millington, Tennessee in August 1994 for Air Traffic Control “A” School. Upon graduation in December 1994, he reported to the Navy’s first nuclear powered aircraft carrier the Big “E” USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in Norfolk, Virginia. During his tour he advanced to the rank of Second Class Petty Officer, obtained his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist designation, and deployed for the first time to the Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf in 1996, in support of Operations Southern Watch and Desert Strike.

 

 

In February of 1998 he received orders to the master jet base, Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he qualified Tower Supervisor and advanced to First Class Petty Officer. 

 

In March of 2003 he reported back to the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in Norfolk, Virginia where he qualified Carrier Air Traffic Controller Center (CATCC) Supervisor, received his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist designation and completed his second Mediterranean and Arabian Gulf deployment in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.

 

In May 2006 he completed Journeyman Instructor Training and reported to NATTC Pensacola, Florida. During his tenure as a Master Training Specialist, he instructed over 1,300 Navy, Marine Corps, and Foreign National controllers in Tower, Radar, and CATCC courses. In 2009 he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. 

 

In May 2011 he reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida the “Cradle of Naval Aviation” and home to the Navy Flight Demonstration Team Blue Angels. As the Tower and Leading Chief Petty Officer he qualified Facility Watch Supervisor. 

 

 

In May 2013 he transferred to the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in Yokosuka, Japan as the Operations Control Division Leading Chief Petty Officer and CATCC Watch Officer. In 2014 he was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer. He led the only CATCC team in the fleet that operates both at sea and ashore at IWO TO (formally known as Iwo Jima Island). In August of 2015 the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON crew sailed the ship to San Diego, California and was part of the first ever tri-carrier hull/crew/homeport change between the USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) and USS THEORDORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71). During his tenure the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON received three consecutive Battle “E” awards and he earned his Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare designation. 

 

Senior Chief Young has been awarded three Navy Commendation medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medals, and various personal, campaign and unit awards. He is married to Lillian Young and they have three children Ronald Jr, Adrianna, and Derrick.
