The First United States Army was formed in France on August 10, 1918, with General John J. Pershing commanding. The mission of the First United States Army is to enhance the combat readiness of Reserve Component Soldiers and units in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands; and to facilitate their ability to execute missions throughout the full spectrum of military operations.
