If you are a crime victim or a family member of a homicide victim, you may want to consider registering with the Office of Victim Services (OVS) for victim notification.
Connecticut Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (CT
SAVIN) provides confidential notification in English, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Notification includes:
OVS offers confidential notification
to victims, their family members, and other eligible persons on changes in
the custody status of an inmate who was sentenced by the court to serve time
in prison.
The DOC, Victim Services Unit offers victim
notification on changes in the custody status of inmates who are in prison
while the court case is pending (accused) and inmates who were sentenced to
prison by the court (convicted).
To register for notification with OVS and DOC, please complete the
Confidential
Request for Notification of Status of Inmates and follow the instructions.
If you have a court protective order or a civil restraining order, OVS will automatically mail you a letter when the protective order ends and 5 weeks before a restraining order ends. You do not need to register for this notification. The letter will be sent to the address in the clerk's file. It's important that you tell the clerk's office if your contact information changes.
Crime victims may request to be notified if
the probation officer notifies police that the
defendant did not follow the conditions of probation (probation violation).
To request notification, you must provide the probation officer with your
name and contact information. Please call the Adult Probation Central
Office at 860-721-2100 for the name and telephone number of the defendant’s
probation officer.
Crime victims, their survivors or legal representatives may receive notification when a defendant found not guilty by lack of capacity because of mental disease or defect is scheduled for a hearing, escapes, or is released from the Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB). To register for notification, call the PSRB at 860‑566‑1441.
