Mission Statement and Operating Philosophy
The Board assures geological practices in Nebraska are carried out by qualified individuals to safeguard life, health, property, and to promote the public welfare. This Mission is carried out by:
- Assuring that those who serve the public through the practice of geology have the education and experience needed to be competent in the field;
- Enforcing the Geologists Regulation Act through education and compliance oversight; and
- Providing quality and responsive regulatory services
Strategic Plan Developed
In August of this year, the Board held its first Strategic Planning Session. During the discussions, the Board Mission Statement and Operating Philosophy were updated. Planning topics included Student Outreach; Redesign of the Board's website; Common Practice Areas and Cooperative Agreements with other agencies; Continued and Increased Involvement with ASBOG; and Professional and Public Outreach. The Board will update and refine the plan over the next couple of years.
The members discussed ways students could become engaged in the licensing process. Some of the ideas included presentations by the Board members at student seminars and Nebraska Geological Society meetings, create a "Next Steps" process for seniors and/or recent graduates, and promoting th euse of the FG exam as an exit exam for Nebraska programs.
The Board has approved working with an outside vendor to create a template for a new website that is more user and technology friendly. It is the Board's hope to have the site launched by the end of 2017.
The Board developed a list of common geology practice areas and identified other organizations and state agencies that may deal with those practicing geology in the State. A descriptive summary of the practice of geology will be developed and the board will be communicating this witht he identified agencies and organizations.
The Board strongly feels a continued cooperation with ASBOG is crucial to staying current with national trends and to ensure the quality of the national licensing exams. The Board is committed to attend the annual meetings and COE workshops. Several members have voiced an interest of possibly serving at the committee level.
