Succession Class (SCLASS) added to the LANDFIRE (LF) Total Fuel Change (LFTFC) Toolbar

Succession Class was added as a new functionality to the LF Total Fuel Change Toolbar. This tool will be helpful for those who utilize ArcMap to create fuel layers, as they can now translate the fuel and succession class mapping rules into spatial layers.

The LF Total Fuel Change (LFTFC) Toolbar was developed as an "add in" toolbar in ArcMap to efficiently apply fuel and vegetation geospatial rules to create fuel layers. Succession Class (SCLASS) was added to the suite of geospatial layers LFTFC produces in 2015. The LFTFC Toolbar links to the LANDFIRE mapping rules stored in a Microsoft Access database, translates the fuel and SCLASS mapping rules into spatial layers, and allows for iterative changes to the spatial layers. The toolbar has the ability to copy and auto-rule the rulesets from previous versions of LANDFIRE data and edit any of the attributes within each ruleset. These LFTFC capabilities become important when there are changes to the vegetation through Existing Vegetation Type (EVT), Cover (EVC), Height (EVH), Biophysical (BPS), or Disturbance. This tool is currently being evaluated by collaborators and will be released in the near future. Check landfire.gov for up-coming releases.
