ArcMap 10 may crash when selecting a record

ArcMap 10 may crash when a record(s) in a LANDFIRE (LF) grid attribute table is selected.

Advice:
LF suggests several options to try if ArcMap 10 crashes while selecting a record in a grid's attribute table. The success of these workarounds depends on the specifics of your system and while not listed in any particular order, we suggest implementing the following sequentially to resolve the problem:

Install ArcGIS 10.1 if it is available to you (this may resolve all issues and subsequent workarounds would not be necessary)
Remove SP 1 and 2 and install SP 3
Add an 8 bit grid to your ArcMap project before adding LF data
Remove the blue field from the grid's attribute table - if you do this, you may want to create a layer file for the grid for display purposes
