"To partner with parents and organizations to help provide quality care for children, who are the future of us all!"

Child Care Services (CCS)

This program provides financial assistance for child care costs to low-income working parents or parents attending full time training or educational programs. CCS helps individuals who wish to provide child care in their homes through a process that covers everything from making sure the homes are safe for children to providing training opportunities for the providers. CCS also provides funding assistance to tribal organizations to start, improve or expand upon existing quality after school activity programs with After School Activity "ASA" Funds.

Home Based Provider Services

Kawerak Child Care Services was established to provide assistance with the rising costs of child care. CCS partners with parents by not only helping with this, but also by assisting them in finding quality child care for their children. For child care assistance, there is an application process we ask each family to complete. Once this process is complete the family is notified as whether or not they qualify for assistance. Whether or not a family is eligible for assistance, the families are free to choose a provider to care for their children. There is an application process to become a Kawerak Child Care Services approved provider. This process is designed to ensure that the home and the person applying meet health and safety requirements.

After School Activity "ASA" Funds

Our partnership with Tribal organizations is through the After School Activity (ASA) Funds. With these funds tribal organizations can provide quality activities for children whose parents work or are attending training or educational class during the hours after children are released from school. Each organization may contact CCS for an application packet and guidelines for the funds. When the funds are awarded there are reports to be turned to CCS to help with the evaluation of their program.

Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership

CCS operates Early Head Start-Child Care Partnership programs in Brevig Mission and in Nome. These partnerships support working families by providing full-day programs for children birth-three, so that low-income children have the healthy and enriching early experiences they need to realize their full potential. Families who are interested in enrolling their child in the EHS-CCP must first go through the Child Care Subsidy eligibility process. Applications for both programs are posted on the Kawerak website.
