KNEWS partners with the Division of Public Assistance to provide services to the villages in the Bering Strait Region. Because there is a shortage of paid positions in our village communities, KNEWS works with local organizations to provide volunteer work opportunities for clients to gain job skills, improve work habits, and provide useful assistance to the organizations in your communities. Your volunteer efforts provide services to better your work skills, your family's well being, and your community.
Each client will:KNEWS clients have volunteered in classrooms as aides, provided office and janitorial assistance, stocked and cashiered, lead crafting and sewing groups, assisted with Eskimo dance classes, helped with coaching and sports activities, provided Elder care to local Elders, assisted with grant writing for community projects, and have completed upkeep and repairs to local cemeteries.
