Youth Conservation Corps completes 80-hour 'spike' clearing invasive salt cedar at Big Bend Conservation Area

The Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program (LCR MSCP) recently partnered with the Nevada Conservation Corps, based in Las Vegas, to remove invasive salt cedar at Big Bend Conservation Area, near Laughlin for fuels reduction to protect the nearby area from fire risks.

Flashes of brilliant red, the sound of snapping bills, and the aerial displays of exquisite flycatching – these are the indicators biologists have anticipated.

What started out as pioneering work initiated by a small group of fisheries biologists known as the Native Fish Work Group (NFWG) has now become the cornerstone of the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program’s (LCR MSCP) Fish Augmentation Plan
