What are Subparts?
The NPI Final rule refers to separate locations, licensure, or specialty of an organizational health care provider as a "subpart". The subparts often operate independently of each other and usually conduct their own billing.
- By subparting, each location will receive its own separate NPI.
- Denti-Cal recommends qualifying providers obtain separate NPIs for each of their subparts.
- Failure to subpart may result in claims processing and payment delays.
Provider Identification Number (PIN)
If a provider chooses not to subpart and obtains one (1) NPI for multiple Denti-Cal provider numbers, the PIN designated for the "01" office must be used in all transactions where the PIN is required, regardless of which service office provides services.
