Governor's Traffic Safety Committee

Effective child passenger safety training is an important tool to raise awareness and convey accurate technical information about proper occupant restraint usage. Therefore, the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee provides statewide coordination for child passenger safety training in New York. This includes the following types of courses:

Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification Course
This course is for individuals who are interested in becoming a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. Successful completion of this course will certify individuals as a Child Passenger Safety Technician for 2 years.

• To register for the Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification course and the Child Passenger Safety Certification Renewal Testing, visit the Safe Kids Worldwide website at http://cert.safekids.org/ .
• In addition to registering with Safe Kids Worldwide for the Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification course, a Technician Candidate Commitment Agreement must be mailed or faxed to the course administrator prior to the start date of the class.

The Child Passenger Safety Certification Renewal Testing
This course is for individuals whose Child Passenger Safety Technician Certification has expired. Successful completion of this one day course will help individuals regain their certification.

Child Passenger Safety Technical Update Training
These courses are for currently certified technicians. Completion of these courses help technicians stay current in their knowledge of Child Passenger Safety and earn Continuing Education Units towards recertification.
