Section 1983 White Plains Pilot Town Hall Meeting on May 20
On May 20, 2016, the Court will host a Town Hall meeting to answer questions and solicit comments and suggestions for the § 1983 Plan in White Plains.

Judges, representatives from the New York City Law Department, and the Director of the Court’s ADR Program will attend. The meeting will be held in the Courthouse at 300 Quarropas Street, Jury Assembly Room, from 12-1:30. Lunch will be served.

If you plan to attend please RSVP to Rebecca_Price@nysd.uscourts.gov by Monday May 9.

If you cannot attend, and wish to comment, please send comments to Rebecca_Price@nysd.uscourts.gov by May 20, 2016.

Public Notice for Reappointment of Incumbent Magistrate Judges
The current terms of the office of United States Magistrate Judges Debra Freeman and Gabriel W. Gorenstein are due to expire on March 1, 2017.

The United States District Court is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointments of the magistrate judges to a new eight year term

Southern District of New York Announces a Special Session to Commemorate the Court's 225th Anniversary
Chief Judge Loretta A. Preska has announced that the United States District Court for the Southern District Court will hold a special session on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 to commemorate the first session of the Court held 225 years ago.

Upholding the Rule of Law in Germany's Federal Republic: The Mykonos Case
The Federal Bar Association's Federal Litigation Section and the Southern District of New York chapter present a panel discussion on the Mykonos case, a three-year trial in Berlin's High Criminal Court that resulted in the conviction of four individuals accused of murdering Iranian dissidents in a Berlin restaurant. Presented in conjunction with the SDNY Lawyers Without Rights exhibit, running from February 13 - April 11 at 500 Pearl Street.

SDNY Board of Judges Selects Judith C. McCarthy to Serve as Magistrate Judge
The Board of Judges of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) has selected Judith C. McCarthy to serve as a Magistrate Judge for a term of eight years. She will serve on the bench at the Charles L. Brieant United States Courthouse in White Plains.

Lawyers Without Rights: Jewish Lawyers in Germany under the Third Reich
In conjunction with the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association of the Southern District of New York, and the German Federal bar, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York will host an exhibit depicting how Jewish lawyers were barred from courts beginning in 1933 and how individual rights and the rule of law were neglected during the Nazi era. This exhibit is located in the lobby of the federal courthouse at 500 Pearl Street; it runs from February 18 through April 11.
