As of September 1, 2012, motions to appear Pro Hac Vice and payment of the associated fees must be filed online using the Court's Case Management / Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF) system. Orders granting motions for admission Pro Hac Vice may appear solely in electronic format without a pdf document attached. New Instructions and training for filing a motion for admission Pro Hac Vice on the District Court's CM/ECF system are below.

Motions for Pro Hac Vice are required to be electronically filed. The maximum file size for a single PDF document filed electronically on the ECF system is 4.0 megabytes (4.0 mb). Electronically filed documents must be filed in PDF-A format.

Please be advised that it is preferable for the applicant to file a pro hac vice motion on his or her own behalf. Please see instructions below for details.

When a sponsoring attorney moves (files) a Pro Hac Vice Motion on behalf of an attorney applicant, the sponsoring attorney must notify the attorney applicant when the order has been signed granting Pro Hac Vice. The attorney applicant must, upon granting of the order, immediately obtain an ECF Password and file a Notice of Appearance online using the Court's Case Management / Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF) system.

A separate Pro Hac Vice Motion is required for each attorney applicant.

Prior to filing a Motion for Admission Pro Hac Vice the attorney applicant must apply for an ECF PASSWORD on-line. Please enter "XXXXXX" for the bar code. Enter the date the application is being submitted in the two places that require dates.

Instructions for Admission Pro Hac Vice by Written Motion

Electronically file:

A MOTION FOR ADMISSION PRO HAC VICE with the attorney's full contact information without a return date (see sample motion),

CERTIFICATE(S) OF GOOD STANDING issued within 30 days for the attorney from each state court in which the applicant is a member of the bar.

A proposed ORDER FOR ADMISSION PRO HAC VICE (see sample order)

Pay the fee for Admission Pro Hac Vice electronically on the ECF system

Instructions for Admission Pro Hac Vice by Oral Motion

When time does not permit a written motion, an attorney may move for admission by oral motion for pro hac vice. A proposed ORDER FOR ADMISSION PRO HAC VICE ON ORAL MOTION must be completed in advance of the appearance (see sample order).

Immediately after the Motion for Admission is made in open court and granted, the attorney is required to:

Apply for an ECF Password (see instructions above),

Pay the fee for Admission Pro Hac Vice electronically on the ECF system

Forward a cover letter with case number and a CERTIFICATE(S) OF GOOD STANDING issued within 30 days for the attorney from each state court in which the applicant is a member of the bar. Please review our Certificate of Good Standing Contact List.
