Legal Services

The Fort Greely Legal office is located on the ground level in Garrison Headquarters (building 501). Clients may stop by or call to make an appointment. Telephone (907) 873-0420 or (907) 873-5034 for further information.

The Fort Greely Legal Office provides worldwide support to the United States Army and the Fort Greely military community. Its mission is to enhance combat readiness and the general well-being of our Soldiers by providing a number of client and preventative law services. The office provides free advice and assistance to eligible clients on personal legal matters.

We encourage you to bring leases, agreements, contracts, etc. to the Legal Office for review BEFORE you sign them. Eligible clients include National Guard, Reservists, Active Duty, retirees and their family members (military ID card holders).

SERVICES PROVIDED
    Basic advice and services on personal legal matters including:
  • Estate issues such as wills, living wills, advance medical directives, powers
  • of attorney and guardianships
  • Family matters such as adoption, paternity, divorce, custody, support and visitation
  • Consumer issues such as contracts, auto repairs, warranties and bankruptcy
  • Landlord-Tenant issues
  • Real property law such as home purchase or sale
  • Servicemembers’ Civil Relief Act issues
  • Veterans’ reemployment rights
  • Notarial services
  • Taxes
  • Civilian criminal matters (limited)
  • Referral to civilian attorneys for complex legal matters

SERVICES NOT PROVIDED

  • Defenses to charges brought pursuant to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Contact the Trial Defense Service offices at Fort Wainwright or Fort Richardson regarding this issue
  • Private business activities
  • Litigation or claims against the United States
  • Prepaid-legal-representation cases such as your insurance company defending you in a tort case
  • Contingent fee cases
  • Standards of conduct issues
  • Legal issues or concerns raised on behalf of a person who is ineligible for legal assistance
