Assistant State Fire Marshal, Mike Richwine
On March 1, 2012, Chief Michael J. (Mike) Richwine was appointed by Governor Edmund G. Brown as the Assistant State Fire Marshal of CAL FIRE - Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM).
Chief Richwine began his career in 1980 as a firefighter with the City of Hanford Fire Department. His subsequent years of service include over 26 years with the OSFM. Prior to being appointed, Chief Richwine was the Chief of State Fire Training, responsible for administering the California Fire Service Training and Education System (CFSTES), and the Fire Service Training and Education Program (FSTEP) for over 60,000 firefighters in the State. He continues to serve as California's Director for training and education programs offered through the United States Fire Administration, National Fire Academy.
During Mike Richwine's career, he has risen through the ranks and held a variety of fire prevention and training positions within the OSFM, that include Chief of the Fire Engineering Division; Deputy State Fire Marshal within Fire and Life Safety, Hazardous Materials and Pipeline Safety Divisions; and he served seven years as a Fire Service Training Specialist in the State Fire Training Division.
Chief Richwine served for six years as a member of CAL FIRE Incident Management Teams and holds numerous professional certifications. He currently serves as ex-officio member of the Statewide Training and Education Advisory Committee and State Board of Fire Services within the OSFM, and is a member of National Fire Protection Association, North American Fire Training Directors, and California Fire Chiefs Association.
Mike lives in Rocklin with his 17 year old daughter and spends most of his free time traveling with her to volleyball tournaments throughout the U.S.
